Tips and Tricks

  • Cooked grains freeze beautifully. Cook a double batch and freeze half so that you will always have cooked grains ready to go. Thaw in the refrigerator over night or in your microwave for immediate use. You may need to add a little bit of water to refresh thawed grains.
  • Consider adding extra flavor to grains by using stock rather that water as your cooking liquid.
  • Infuse your grains with flavor as they cook. Throw in lemon zest, a knob of ginger, a bay leaf, or minced garlic. Let your imagination run wild.
  • Use cooked grains in place of pasta. Almost any topping that you would put on top of pasta will taste great on top of cooked grains.
  • Toss cooked whole grains into your tossed salad. Add cooked grains to soups or casseroles for extra flavor and nutrition.
